Kansas-Nebraska Act
-Compromise allowing popular sovereignty in Kansas and Nebraska to decide if they would be admitted as a slave or free state. A Native American-free land was wanted to build a large railroad system.
-Stephen A. Douglas is a key figure of the act because he proposed the Bill to allow popular sovereignty.
-It angered the North, because slavery might be allowed in either state.
-The South was very dependent on slavery and needed it to survive. They pressured Douglas to do this.
